Need Some Peace of Mind? Think "8"

There's not much good news being broadcast over the airwaves these days. It's hard to have peace of mind when everything seems upended and in turmoil on a global scale, but dealing with our daily can be a peace robber as well. So, I want to share a valuable tool with you about how to have peace of mind. I call it, "Think 8."

Because so many things are pulling at us for our attention, it can be difficult at times to keep our minds connected with all things eternal, especially on those days when the house is a wreck, the laundry's piling up, and everyone wants something from you.

I learned a truth that has stuck with me through the years and that is,"Wisdom is seeing life from God's perspective." So, no matter where we land each day, whether in an office, traveling, going to meetings, at home with the kids, running a kid taxi service, doing laundry, working from home, or cleaning out a closet, there can be peace in the midst of it all. Use the God lens of wisdom, and focus on things above. (Colossians 3:2)

Every child of God has the capacity to focus on all things eternal every day
if her mind and attitude are aligned with the truth of God's Word.

It's not always easy to think only about what's true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise (Phil. 4:8), but when we do, there's much less room for the other stuff like being anxious, worrying, complaining, arguing, or whining.

When our minds are filled with the Word,
we are simply thinking about Jesus.

As I was thinking about this post this morning, I noticed how the number eight was showing up all over the place:

  • In the verse - Phil. 4:8
  • There are 8 words in this list.
  • The number 8 is a biblical representation of Jesus Christ.
  • These 8 things point us to the perfect character of Jesus.
I love it when God opens my eyes to things like this. His Word is so amazing! Another reason to think "8"!
He will show us greater and deeper things.

So, if your mind is a swirl of chaos and you're struggling to push back on the insanity of life, please pray. Ask the Lord to help you to think on these things.

The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.
(Isaiah 26:3 NASB)

Rejoice in the Lord always, be gracious to everyone. Don't worry, but pray about everything, and give thanks in all things... (my version of Phil. 4:4-6)

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:7 CSB)

  • Claim God's Love Letter for yourself. The Word of God is about Christ and is written to you.

  • Personalize verses. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard my heart and [my] mind in Christ Jesus.

  • Use these tools to push back the enemy who loves anything that distracts us from thinking about Jesus.

Need some peace of mind today, sweet friend? Think on these things.

And as always...
